OF ISL STUDIES:
Librarianship
and Bibliotherapy

Students learn about functions and tasks performed in various types of
libraries, methods of managing them and problems connected with library
computerization. They get hand on experience in the basic librarian
activities. They obtain knowledge about reading and acquaint themselves
with the function of a book for various society groups.

on the therapeutic functions of
reading, especially among people with physical and mental disabilities,
and people who have problems with functioning in society. These people
are very often unable to use and read standard print publications. They
need special reading materials (alternative formats of books) and
special kind of bibliotherapy. Students are introduced to bibliotherapy
for such people, as well as to alternative formats (e.g. Braille books,
twin-vision books, large-print books, talking books, sign and
print-sign books, easy to read books etc.). Students are also taught
how to introduce people with disabilities into the world of information
through the use of new technology.
Information and Communication Technology

Courses connected with Information
and Communication Technology aim at
extension and improvement of students' knowledge about: modern computer
equipment, the principles of its wide usage in many applications, tools
and methods of Applied Computer Science. A special attention is paid to
computer networks, their structure, their information resources and
their role in the modern Information Society. Students have an
opportunity to improve their computer skills, from which they benefit
during the rest of their studies.
At students and teaching staff's disposal there are 4 well-equipped
computer laboratories. After lectures and tutorials students have free
access to all computer resources. On subjects connected with
Information Science students learn how to
use and profit from different information sources, saved in both:
traditional (paper) and electronic form. They practice in creation and
management of their own databases. They broadly use Internet resources
and create their own electronic publications, including WWW pages.
Students of this specialization learn how to create and manage various
types of information servers.

about: law regulations concerning the press (censorship,
press law); methodology of knowledge about the press; various types of
press and polish press history. During tutorials students create
monographs of journals.
